Digital depot
One of the main features of the new Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is its digital depot directly behind the main entrance. Interaction between visitors, digital information and tangible works of art takes centre stage making this digital depot unique.
An enormous wall provides a cross section of the museum’s wide-ranging collection: a painting by Saenredam hangs alongside a print by Joep van Lieshout, a vacuum cleaner is displayed beside a sculpture by Lavier and a baroque balustrade is positioned beside a painting by Charley Toorop.
These works of art, all so different, hold many a tale about art, the museum, its collection and the art business in general. Visitors are invited to seek out these stories on glass screens placed directly in front of the works of art. Besides the many stories that were developed especially for this project, material was drawn from interviews with artists, publicity films and documentaries, for instance, from newsreels produced by Polygoon.
