ArtsConnectEd: Collaboration in the Integration and Acces to Museum Resources.
This paper discusses the philosophical underpinnings for museum collaboration; background, implementation, and evaluation of a particular collaboration between the Walker Art Center and The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, ArtsConnectEd; and a vision for future directions for museum collaborations.
Interoperability between the existing resources in (different) museums is indeed a very interesting subject. Yet it amazes me how difficult it is to really implement this idea in institutions, while it seems so logical to do so. Next to that, to often these projects stop once the funding stops.

– In Flanders, a recent but undocumented project is http://www.vlaamsekunstcollectie.be
– An interesting article about interoperability was written by a friend of mine a few years back. It was meant as an introduction to the subject for people in Flanders: Vanstappen, Henk, Geïntegreerde toegang tot erfgoeddatabanken., in: Bibliotheek- en archiefgids, 78 (2002) 3 – http://www.okbv.be/teksten/artikel_erfgoeddatabanken_2002.pdf
– Another very interesting project is MOAC, http://www.bampfa.berkeley.edu/moac/
Thanks a lot for your comment and interesting examples and texts.
I think you are right about the problems with funding etc. another important issue is the technological aspect in the interoperabillity of databases (of museums). An example in Flanders of an archive that tries to keep its standards as ‘open’ as possible so that they are compatible with other databases is the Digital Archive of Lettres in Flanders (DALF) by CTB.
